G20 Summit 2023 LIVE Updates: The African Union formally took its seat as a new member of the G20 Saturday at the invitation of summit host and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director and Chairman Kristalina Georgieva and World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala were among the first to arrive.

Earlier on Friday, the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration of G20 is almost ready and will be presented before the grouping’s leaders to secure a consensus, India’s sherpa Amitabh Kant said.

Addressing a press conference ahead of the G20 Leaders’ Summit on 9-10 September, Kant said he would reveal more about the declaration, also referred to as a joint communique, after it has been accepted by the leaders. However, he said the declaration will include the voice of the global south and developing countries.

Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina held a bilateral talk in New Delhi. The two countries also signed three memorandum of understanding (MoUs), including one on cooperation in Digital Payment mechanisms.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden arrived in the national capital Delhi on Friday to participate in the G20 Summit to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. US President Biden, along with Janet Yellen, went for a closed-door meeting with PM Modi on Friday, after the former arrived in India.

The Quad, comprising India, US, Japan and Australia, has been focusing on practical cooperation to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific in the backdrop of China's increasing military muscle-flexing in the region.

The 18th G20 Summit is being held at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre in New Delhi on September 9 and 10.

A Leaders Declaration will be adopted at the conclusion of the New Delhi Summit.

Girraj Prasad, a laureate of the National Award and the Delhi State Award exhibited his work at the crafts bazaar set up in the G20 Summit venue, Bharat Mandapam.

Terracotta is one of the most ancient traditional art forms that has evolved together with human civilisation.

Sharing the details about his art he told ANI, “This art has been practised in my family for four generations and is a very old art. Pottery has been used and created in India since the time of Mohan Jodaro. In terracotta, cooking utensils that we use on a daily basis, as well as other products such as lamps are manufactured by us from ancient times to the present. Amid the heightened security in the national capital for the G20 Summit, a case of drone flying in the Patel Nagar area of central Delhi came to the fore on Friday.

After receiving information, the police registered an FIR and upon further investigation, it was found that a birthday party was being celebrated in the Patel Nagar area, and the drone was flown by photographers to cover the video of the event.

The police have registered a case under IPC 188 for disobedience to orders duly promulgated by public servants. Notably, Delhi Police is on high alert, and any kind of disobedience of the law by citizens is expected to be addressed with strict actions. (ANI)
